Fair Trade movement stands for Sustainable Development. At times, the concept of Sustainable Development essentially includes two equally important aspects i.e. Sustainable Production and Sustainable Consumption. However, in general “Impact on People and Environment” is the criteria which measure the “Sustainable Angle of development. Fair Trade gives ample attention “Impact on People & Environment” at all levels.
Fair Trade is the outcome of continuing quest of consumers to attain products and practices which are responsible towards People and Environment. Over the last six decades, Fair Trade has developed into a strategy which offers workable solutions to many social, economical, environmental as well as political issues.
Fair Trade movement and philosophy proclaims the motto of “Trade, Social and Environment Justice to the all.” It has placed this motto before corporate sector, international trade bodies, governments, development organizations and more importantly consumers, strongly for consideration.
At the same time, since its inception, Fair Trade movement could practically link the marginalized producers and responsive consumers by creating and sustaining livelihood generation opportunities. It is a continuous process of making trade workable to all, especially to those who have marginalized, exploited and unorganized. Hence it is worthwhile to mention that Fair Trade is successfully intervening in the areas of Rules and Lives while continuously trying to extend a Fair Deal to ‘People ad Environment.”
Fair Trade Alliance Building Programs are aimed at building up collective action by all who aims to realize Sustainable Development. It is a meeting point for all who believes in the motto of “Trade, Social and Environment Justice to the all.” We would like to make them active part of Fair Trade initiatives aimed at a providing dignified life for the marginalized and exploited, of course by ensuring a safe Environment.
While delivering the above task, we will be contributing to the poverty reduction initiatives in India, which are also one of the core aspects of the Millennium Development Goals envisioned by the United Nations.
FTF-I’s vision is to build up a sustainable model based on the motto of “Trade, Social and Environment Justice to the all.” Since our tool is Trade, we would like to see a market which is sensitive to ‘People and Environment” is evolving and sustaining in India. It beckons constant efforts by all who share the concern of ‘People & Environment’. Ultimately it should get connected with the responsive consumers in a live and fashionable way. In India, FTF-I, which represents the Global Fair Trade movement led by WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization), is trying to coordinate this task. To realize this we would like to build up a wider alliance, which can offer the treasure of rich experiences, to build up Fair Trade in India. |
