Women Empowerment & Gender Equity

FTF-I is largely and regularly involved in the upliftment and growth of women. Women artisans and farmers are given a special focus. FTF-I advocates to promote the voice, visibility and validity of working poor women across different states, sectors and issues in the informal economy. Women producers are given special trainings not only to build their design and craft skills, but also for their health and nutrition, education and vocational skills. It is ensured that their wages are fairly provided and no discrimination is done.

Trainings provided are focused on enterprise skills, such as market analysis, distribution and business management, identifying the technologies that would benefit them most, and would help them to participate better. The women are also informed in organising themselves into SHG groups. This helps them in micro finance and be self dependent. Many women producers have come together to form one single producer group and are working for various FTOs.

The main topics of skill training for women producers conducted by FTF-I have been in:

  • Ensuring that training in both financial management and marketing is directly relevant to the women’s enterprises helps them make good use of it
  • Market analysis, processing, quality control and packaging accompanied by training in pricing and selling
  • Capacity building training is important to assist women in identifying their own challenges, initiating change and understanding of how training could impact on their lives and activities.
