GODAVARI DELTA WOMEN LACE ARTISANS
The work involved in making laces is voluminous and the beauty and the finishing of the articles manufactured is exquisite. Unfortunately these dexterous lace workers were paid meagre wages and exploited by middlemen exporters. One of the exploited lace artisans, with exquisite skills is Mrs.K.Hemalatha. She approached the All India Handicrafts Board for help and was advised by to form a Co-Operative Society. Mrs.Hemalatha gathered the women artisans as members and applied for registration. In 1979 Godavari Delta Women Lace Aartisans Co-operative Cottage Industrial Society Ltd.(GDWLACCI) was registered. Mrs. Hemalatha became the founder president and Designer of this Society. Her aim was to better the financial position of the lace artisans.
Aims and Objectives:
- To impart technical training to members.
- To encourage self-help mutual aid and cooperation and to strive hard for the betterment and uplift of the down trodden members economically and socially.
- To provide better wages and profits to is members.
- To do all such acts as may be conducive to the betterment of the members.
