Olympic Medalist Mary Kom Honoured

Mary Kom, the first ever tribal woman Olympic bronze medalist in boxing was honoured by Shri V. Kishore Chandra Deo, Hon’ble Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj at a public felicitation at Hotel “The Ashok” on 14th August 2012. Shri Mahadeo Singh Khandela, Hon’ble Minister of State of Tribal Affairs, Smt. Vibha Puri Das, Secretary ,Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jiji Thomson, Managing Director, TRIFED and Shri  A.K Dubey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs were also present during the occassion.


The ‘Magnificent Mary’ as called by the International Boxing Association, from Manipur, received a cash award of  Rs 10 lakh from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs barely hours after touching down in the country from London in an early after her historic feat. A traditional “Kom tribal dance” was presented by the Kom students in her honour.
